Skywarn training March 25 @ 2PM at the Valley Center library.

San Diego County Skywarn and the Greater Valley Center Fire Safe Council are hosting The National Weather Service at the Valley Center library for Skywarn Weather Spotter training.
The National Weather Service (NWS) has many tools at its disposal to aid it in making forecasts of the most chaotic events that affect us – the weather. Satellites, radar, planes full of sensors, these are all important tools at its disposal. One tool that is sometimes overlooked is the good old human report that calibrates all the sensors and tells the forecasters what is REALLY going on providing what is known as “ground truth”. It is a very important job, and one that is much appreciated and relied on by the staff at the NWS.
The human reporters are termed “spotters”, and a national spotter organization, SKYWARN, exists to train and organize the spotters so they provide the information that is most important to the forecasters.
On Saturday, March 25, at 2 pm the National Weather Service will hold a training session at the VC Library on how to become one of the NWS’s trusted spotter partners and go over the basics of weather reporting. Meteorologists from the Rancho Bernardo NWS office will cover what information is needed by the forecasters, types of weather, basics of meteorology, and how to make reports. All residents with an interest in weather and community safety are encouraged to come.
This class is free, and refreshments are being provided by The Greater Valley Center Fire Safe Council.
